UNTON App Privacy Policy
Who this document applies to
This privacy policy applies to users of the official UNTON mobile and desktop applications developed by the UNTON Team. It describes the data related to your use of the UNTON apps. Please note that it does not cover the policies of independent service operators that you may connect to via UNTON – always review the privacy policy of your chosen service provider.
Our approach to privacy
Privacy is not just a feature of UNTON – it is the reason the project exists. Unlike traditional platforms that rely on personal data collection, UNTON is designed to give you full control over your communication.
Our guiding principles are:
1. Data shared with the UNTON developers
As app developers, we minimize what the UNTON app shares with us.
There are only two cases where data may be sent to us:
-
To deliver push notifications to your device, using your mobile OS vendor’s push infrastructure.
-
In the event of an app crash, if you approve the submission of a crash report to help us fix the problem.
This processing is based on our legitimate interest to provide a stable and reliable app.
1.1 Push notifications
-
Android: UNTON uses Google’s FCM (Firebase Cloud Messaging). Identifiers are generated by Google and are not linked to your personal identity. We do not store your username, IP address, or message content.
-
iOS: UNTON uses Apple Push Notification service (APNs). Tokens are generated by iOS and used only for delivering notifications to your device. Notification payloads are encrypted so that neither UNTON nor Apple can read message contents.
1.2 Crash reports
If you choose to send a crash report, it may include technical data about your device and app version. This data is used only to diagnose and fix issues.
2. Data shared with your service operator
When you use UNTON, you connect to a service provider of your choice (for example, a community or organizational server). Data that flows through your operator includes:
-
Contacts you add (username and ID)
-
Messages, calls, and file transfers
-
Your profile picture (if uploaded)
-
Encryption keys used for secure communication
Your operator does not receive:
3. Encryption of data
All private chats, group chats, and calls in UNTON use end-to-end encryption (OMEMO, SRTP). This means that only you and your contacts can access the content.
We encourage you to use built-in verification methods to confirm encryption with your contacts.
4. Independence of operators
The UNTON Team develops the apps and the UNMPP protocol, but the services you connect to may be operated by third parties. Always ensure you trust your chosen operator and agree with their privacy policy.
5. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect improvements in our apps and services. Updates will be published on our website and in the app.
